CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Sierra Front Field Office (BLM) has issued a Decision granting a right-of-way to Great Basin Gas Transmission Company to expand their Carson Lateral pipeline across public lands in Washoe and Lyon counties.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), an independent federal agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas, and oil, served as the lead agency on the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) analysis. FERC released environmental assessment (EA) EAXX-019-20-000-1752151875 on December 1, 2025. It is available through FERC’s eLibrary under docket CP25-209-000.
As a cooperating agency, the BLM participated throughout the NEPA process and concurs with FERC’s determination that the project will not significantly affect the human environment. The BLM’s Decision is now available for a 30‑day appeal period.

Project Description
The Great Basin Gas Company proposes to install approximately 4.67 total miles of 20-inch diameter steel pipe in two distinct segments, called the Wadsworth and Highway Segments, within Washoe and Lyon Counties. The expansion/upgrade of the existing Carson Lateral pipeline would provide increased capacity of up to 8,129 dekatherms per day in response to growing market demand as requested by Great Basin’s shippers in Northern Nevada and Northern California. Great Basin anticipates Project activities to be completed and in-service by the fourth quarter of 2026. The BLM is a Cooperating Agency and the project would encompass 3.61 acres of temporary construction and 2.62 acres of permanent encumbrance within BLM lands.
