On April 12 2026, the LYB Houston Refinery located at 12000 Lawndale, Houston, TX, 77017 will safely carry out a planned, controlled demolition of its Coker units on the north side of the site near the Houston Ship Channel.

The demolition process will begin around sunrise, approximately 6:30 a.m., with a series of required safety, weather, and coordination checks. The actual implosion will not occur until all checks are complete and will last only a few minutes.
During the brief implosion window, nearby residents may hear a short burst of noise or see a small, temporary dust plume. Both are expected and are part of the controlled demolition process. Dust suppression measures will be used throughout the event to minimize off-site impact.
Sound levels at the point of implosion may reach approximately 140 decibels within the secured 1000 ft exclusion zone—similar to fireworks at close range or aircraft engines during takeoff. Noise levels decrease rapidly with distance and are expected to be significantly lower at the site boundary and in nearby neighborhoods.
