ONE Gas Plans $160M Oklahoma Natural Gas Pipeline

ONE Gas to Build $160M Natural Gas Pipeline in Southeast Oklahoma

ONE Gas plans to invest up to $160 million to develop a 43-mile, large-diameter natural gas pipeline in southeast Oklahoma, a project designed to support rising electricity demand and improve grid reliability across the region.

According to a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the pipeline will deliver more than 100 billion cubic feet of natural gas per year to Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC), fueling power generation at the cooperative’s Hugo Plant near Fort Towson.

The project is expected to enter service in the third quarter of 2028 and will support approximately 400 megawatts of natural gas-fueled generation by 2029, marking Phase One of a broader, long-term WFEC resource plan focused on reliable generation capacity.

Pipeline Details and Investment Breakdown

The pipeline will connect the Bennington Natural Gas Hub to WFEC’s Hugo Plant. While the total project cost is estimated at $150–$160 million, ONE Gas plans to invest approximately $120 million of that amount.

Construction, operation, and maintenance will be handled by ONE Gas’ local distribution subsidiary, Oklahoma Natural Gas, which will own and operate the system once it enters service. Construction is expected to take more than two years.

Supporting Grid Reliability and Load Growth

ONE Gas said the new infrastructure is intended to secure the long-term future of the Hugo Plant while strengthening energy infrastructure in southeast Oklahoma. The timeline aligns with WFEC’s plans to bring additional generation online by 2029, ensuring a stable fuel supply as utilities respond to growing industrial, commercial, and residential electricity demand.

By delivering natural gas directly to a major generation facility, the pipeline is expected to enhance grid reliability, support economic growth, and help utilities manage increasing load requirements across the state.
