Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc. (Avina) has announced the launch of a 3D virtual tour showcasing its highly anticipated 800,000 MTPA Clean Ammonia Facility on the Texas Gulf Coast. This state-of-the-art facility, set to become the first large-scale clean ammonia production plant in the United States, represents a major advancement in the transition to low-carbon fuels. The immersive virtual experience – published on the company’s website – highlights the plant’s innovative design, technological advancements, and the integration of blue and electrolytic hydrogen for ammonia production.
The virtual tour provides an in-depth look at key components of the facility, including the ammonia synthesis loop, hydrogen and ammonia storage systems, and the seamless integration of 1 GW of renewable energy with blue hydrogen to produce low-carbon ammonia. “We are thrilled to share this additional milestone with our stakeholders after successful FEED completion of our Gulf Coast Clean Ammonia Facility”, said Vishal Shah, Founder & CEO of Avina Clean Hydrogen, on Avina’s website.
According to the video, the Texas Gulf Coast plant will utilize renewable energy, blue hydrogen, and best-in-class safety measures, featuring a technology license from KBR. A key element of the facility is its water demineralization process, which purifies imported raw water to produce high-purity hydrogen through electrolysis. The process ensures that only pure hydrogen enters the ammonia synthesis loop, aligning with Avina’s commitment to sustainable water conservation through a closed-loop dry cooling system that minimizes water loss.
The video further details how the facility blends blue hydrogen with electrolytic hydrogen to form synthesis gas, which is then compressed and fed into the ammonia converter. Within this converter, catalyst beds facilitate the reaction between hydrogen and nitrogen, producing ammonia through an exothermic process. The exhaust heat generated is recovered to produce superheated steam, which drives a turbine to enhance energy efficiency. Liquid ammonia is then stored in double-walled containment tanks and transported safely via pipeline to ports, reinforcing Avina’s emphasis on operational safety and sustainability.
The Texas Ammonia Plant symbolizes the future of clean energy. By supplying competitively priced clean ammonia, Avina Clean Hydrogen is taking a leadership role in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as maritime, aviation, and heavy industry. The company has been dedicated to advance in clean fuel solutions. With this initiative, Avina is solidifying its position at the forefront of the clean hydrogen and ammonia industry, setting new standards for innovation and environmental responsibility.
