At Allstream Insiders, we’re always on the lookout for forward-thinkers driving change in the energy industry. Last week, at the ECC, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Quinn Woodard, Senior Director at Fervo Energy, to talk about his journey from oil and gas to pioneering advancements in geothermal energy.
Quinn shared insights into Fervo Energy’s latest breakthrough—closing their Series C funding, led by Devon Energy, to support the development of a 400 MW geothermal facility in Utah. This project represents a major step forward for renewable energy and highlights the growing potential of geothermal as a key player in the energy transition.
With a background in oil and gas, Quinn’s career has spanned the globe, exposing him to diverse assets and operations. His shift into the renewable sector is a testament to how transferable skills like critical thinking and technical expertise can open doors in emerging industries. He emphasized the importance of staying curious, asking questions, and continually evolving—especially for young engineers eager to make their mark.
One of the biggest challenges Fervo Energy faces today, Quinn noted, is recruiting specialized engineers, particularly in fields like electrical power and process engineering. As geothermal technology continues to evolve, the industry’s demand for talent mirrors that of traditional energy sectors—skills in pumps, motors, and electrical substation design are still crucial.
Quinn also spoke highly of the ECC experience, describing it in one word: “Wow.” From networking opportunities to invaluable lessons from industry leaders, he encouraged anyone on the fence about attending to see it as an investment in their personal and professional growth.
As Fervo Energy pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in geothermal, we’re excited to see what’s next. Stay tuned for more from Quinn and Fervo Energy, as they continue to lead the charge in renewable innovation.
